This is a 2013 Carlinhos Luthier Marfim N-1 cavaquinho that was hand made in Brazil. The Cavaquinho originated in Portugal, and made it's way to other parts of the world in various forms and tunings. The Brazilian cavaquinho like this one, is slightly larger than the traditional Portugese cavaquinho and features designs often associated with classical guitars. With its neck raised above the body, and traditional slotted headstock, the N-1 Marfim is a perfect example of the Brazilian Cavaquinho. It features a solid Spruce top, German Pine back and sides, Pau Ferro fretboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, and a passive undersaddle piezo pickup. The N-1 feautures four steel strings that are currently tuned D-G-B-E (traditional Brazilian tuning is D-G-B-D), but can be tuned in a variety of different ways. The N-1 also comes with a padded gig bag and specialized stand.
